An examination of three hypotheses utilizing data from Chumash rock art sites in the San Marcos Pass and Sierra Madre Ridge regions of Santa Barbara, California. The author proposes a new classification scheme, and applies seriation analysis using multidimensional scaling to test the hypotheses. Sites in the study area are also compared for their environmental and archaeological site type associations.
